Dr Lucy Crockford is a Senior Lecturer in Soil and Water Management at Harper Adams University. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science from NUI Galway (2006), an MSc in Environmental Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast (2010), and a PhD in Geography from Trinity College Dublin (2015). Her research focuses on soil structure, water quality dynamics, and agricultural catchment management, particularly using high-frequency sensor data and modeling techniques. She is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager with CIWEM and actively contributes to the Soil and Water Science Group and Agroecology for Sustainable Food Systems initiatives.
Dr Crockford oversees three new undergraduate courses in environmental management and wildlife conservation while teaching modules like Communicating Science in a Digital World and Environmental Quality and Development. Her research explores organic amendments’ impact on soil health, sediment movement in catchments, and nutrient cycling systems. She has supervised PhD students in reducing agricultural nutrient losses and led projects on eutrophication mitigation strategies.
Professional affiliations include the Constructed Wetlands Association and the Soil and Water Management Centre at HAU. Her work bridges environmental science with practical applications to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing natural processes for cleaner water systems.
