معرفی
Lucy Butler is a Lecturer in Bioinformatics at the School of Health and Life Sciences, Teesside University. Previously, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Student at the National Horizons Centre. She holds a BSc in Biological Sciences (2019) and a PhD in Biochemistry and Synthetic Biology (2024), both from Teesside University, with her PhD co-funded by Hart Biologicals. She is also pursuing a PGCLTHE qualification.
Education:
- BSc Biological Sciences, Teesside University (2016–2019)
- PhD in Biochemistry and Synthetic Biology, Teesside University (2019–2024)
- PGCLTHE (ongoing)
Research Interests: Her work bridges computational and experimental biology, focusing on microbial transcriptomics, gene expression regulation, and synthetic biology applications. She explores gene cluster activation for metabolic engineering and industrial microbiology. Techniques include genetic engineering, nucleic acid extraction, and heterologous DNA expression. Collaborations span microbiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
Teaching: Module leader for 'R for Bioinformatics' and 'Genomic Technologies' in the MSc Bioinformatics program.
Projects:
- Investigating the Control and Molecular Architecture of Inclusion Body Formation (2019–ongoing)
- Integrated Microbiological and Synthetic Biology Approaches to Increase Glycopeptide Production (PhD project, 2016–2024)
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the School of Health and Life Sciences and previously with the National Horizons Centre.
