Lucy Bray is Professor in Child Health Literacy at Edge Hill University's Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine, with over 25 years' experience in children's nursing. She serves as Post-graduate Research Student Tutor and leads the international ISupport collaboration developing rights-based healthcare standards for children.
Her educational qualifications include:

Bray's research centers on child health literacy and children's rights empowerment, employing qualitative methods to examine how children/families access health information. Her work spans clinical communication, procedural preparation, and sensory-friendly healthcare environments, with emphasis on inclusive involvement of neurodiverse children and those with long-term conditions.
Recent publications reveal strong focus on mental health support for autistic children, physical restraint practices, and digital health interventions. Key trends include rights-based frameworks for clinical procedures, pandemic impacts on SEND services, and co-produced resources for chronic condition management.
Bray has been shortlisted for national and local research awards recognizing her contributions to child health research and practice.
As Post-graduate Research Student Tutor, she mentors doctoral candidates. Her extensive grant portfolio includes 27 awards from NIHR, WellChild, Duchenne UK, and Burdett Trust, supporting projects on SEND, mental health, nutritional guidance for Duchenne MD, and stoma care for IBD patients.
She leads the international ISupport collaboration developing rights-based standards for pediatric procedures, with translations implemented across multiple countries including Sweden.
