معرفی
Lucy A Godley, MD, PhD, serves as the Jeffrey and Marianne Silver Family Professor of Oncology and Professor of Medicine in the Hematology and Oncology division at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She is a physician-scientist actively affiliated with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she conducts research and provides clinical care in hematologic malignancies.
Educational background:
- BA: Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges (1988)
- PhD: University of California at San Francisco (1995)
- MD: Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine (1997)
Her research centers on the genetic architecture of blood cancers, with emphasis on germline variants in DDX41 and CHEK2 genes that drive hematopoietic malignancies. Through molecular biology and cancer genetics approaches, she investigates genome instability mechanisms, variant classification, and translation of findings into clinical risk assessment frameworks. Her work bridges laboratory discovery and patient care through implementation science initiatives.
Analysis of recent publications reveals consistent focus on cancer genomics, particularly germline variant detection in tumor profiling and molecular mechanisms of genome integrity maintenance. Studies demonstrate how DDX41 resolves G-quadruplex structures to prevent cGAS-mediated cell death in erythroid cells, while CHEK2 variant research establishes new paradigms for leukemia predisposition syndromes.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Nimmo Visiting Speaker, Royal Adelaide Hospital (2023)
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Godley leads translational research within the Lurie Cancer Center, mentoring trainees while developing clinical frameworks for genomic data integration. Her current initiatives address implementation challenges in bringing cancer genetics discoveries from bench to bedside, with emphasis on improving risk assessment and therapeutic strategies for blood cancer patients.
