Lucrecia Paz Burges Cruz

Dr. Lucrecia Paz Burges Cruz is a Full Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in the Department of Philosophy and Social Work, with a teaching and research career spanning since 1997. Her work intersects practical philosophy, moral philosophy, and gender studies, focusing on the evolution of moral capacity and altruism as human-specific concepts.

She leads the Human Systematics Laboratory (LSH) and is a member of the PRAXIS research group. Her research has been published in journals like Ludus Vitalis, Perceptual and Motor Skills, and History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences. She has participated in 13 funded R&D projects, including the principal investigator role for 'Biological Reproduction, Social Reproduction, and the Public Sphere' (REPRODUCE, PID2020-115079RB-I00), and completed nine research stays at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) between 2001 and 2024.

In teaching, she has instructed courses in Anthropology, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Gender and Society, Ethics, Human Cognition, and the Evolution of Language and Brain. She has also contributed to pedagogical innovation and societal knowledge transfer, serving as Vice-rector of Strategic Planning, Equality, and Communication, President of UIB's Coexistence Committee, and Rector's Delegate for the Pact for Social Sustainability of the Balearic Islands.
