Lucile Savary is a permanent CNRS researcher in condensed matter theory at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2014), under Leon Balents, and was a Betty and Gordon Moore Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT (2014–2017). Her research focuses on exotic phenomena in quantum materials, particularly frustrated magnetism, quantum spin liquids, and quantum criticality. She has made significant contributions to understanding quantum spin ice, thermal Hall transport, and topological superconductivity.
Education: B.S. and M.S. in Physics from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (2006, 2008), M.A. in Physics from UC Santa Barbara (2012), Ph.D. in Physics (2014). Professional experience includes postdoctoral research at MIT and visiting positions at institutions worldwide.
Research interests span quantum magnetism, spin-orbit coupled systems, and theoretical frameworks for RIXS. Her work combines analytical approaches with numerical simulations, addressing phenomena like order-by-disorder and thermal conductivity in complex magnets. Awards include the CNRS Bronze Medal (2022), Young Physicist Prize in Statistical Physics (2019), and the F. Nevill Mott Prize (2017).
Key contributions include studies on phonon thermal Hall conductivity, quantum loop states in spin-orbital models, and phase diagrams of anisotropic quantum magnets. She has organized international conferences and workshops, including PCWH2021 on dynamics in condensed matter. Her research also explores twisted bilayer graphene and topological phases in noncentrosymmetric materials.
