Lucie Martin is a Lecturer and Scientific Collaborator in Archaeobotany at the Université de Genève, affiliated with the Institut F.-A. Forel. Her research focuses on Neolithic and European protohistoric subsistence strategies, bioarchaeology, and mountain environments. She specializes in paleoethnobotanical analysis of plant remains, stable isotope studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to reconstruct ancient agricultural practices and dietary patterns.
Key research themes include agropastoral systems in the Alps and Caucasus, plant resource management in high-altitude regions, and the role of vertical mobility in prehistoric economies. She leads projects such as the Hidden Frontiers (NERC, UK) and AUTUMNLAMBS (ANR) initiatives, investigating crop trajectories and seasonal pastoralism. Her work integrates archaeobotanical data with ethnobotany, morphometrics, and isotopic analysis to address questions about human-environment interactions.
Current affiliations include membership in UMR 5204 EDYTEM (Savoie Mont-Blanc University) and coordination roles in national and international research networks like GDR ChasséoLab and BioarchéoDat. Lucie has held postdoctoral fellowships including a Swiss National Science Foundation Ambizione grant (2015-2020) and Marie Heim-Vögtlin grants (2012-2015), focusing on Alpine Neolithic agriculture and Caucasus crop domestication.
