Lucie Gagné is the Chair of the Interior Design Program at KPU’s Wilson School of Design, where she has taught since 1998. A dedicated educator, she holds a BA in Architecture and Art History from Carleton University (Ottawa) and a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership from Simon Fraser University. Her career spans roles as an architect, principal of Carlyle Design Associates, and a leader in curriculum development.
Her research and teaching focus on experiential learning through interdisciplinary field schools, emphasizing decolonization and global cultural engagement. She has led over 18 field schools in Colombia, Mexico, Chile, and beyond, connecting students with Indigenous communities to foster intercultural understanding. During the pandemic, she innovated online learning, integrating virtual workshops and international collaborations.
Lucie advocates for accessible field schools as a 'great equalizer' in education and champions KPU’s role as a polytechnic institution prioritizing practical, transformative learning. Her future goals include expanding Continuing Professional Studies in design and promoting micro-credentials focused on decolonization and intercultural competencies.
