Dr. Lucie Attout is a cognitive researcher at the University of Mons (UMons) specializing in the intersection of working memory, numerical cognition, and language processing. Her academic journey began with a Master's degree in Speech Therapy at the University of Liège, where she specialized in neuropsychology of language and verbal learning disorders.
Her research focuses on working memory mechanisms, particularly serial order processing and its relationship to numerical skills. She investigates dyscalculia, numerical magnitude processing, and employs functional neuroimaging to understand the cerebral substrates involved in these cognitive processes. Dr. Attout has also studied numerical development in various genetic syndromes and language disorders including aphasia.
Dr. Attout has held multiple research positions including an FNRS post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Liège and collaborative post-doctoral work at UCLouvain. She teaches in her specialized areas at UMons, focusing on numerical cognition and dyscalculia.
Her work bridges cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and clinical applications, with particular relevance for understanding and addressing numerical learning difficulties.
