Lucie Angel is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Tours and a prominent researcher at the Center for Research on Cognition and Learning (CeRCA). She serves as Co-head of the Aging and Psychopathology of Memory team (ViPsyM) within UMR CNRS 7295 CeRCA and acts as the CeRCA European Correspondent. Additionally, she co-heads the Cognition, Psychology and Neuroscience course of the Master's in Psychology at the University of Tours, demonstrating her significant institutional responsibilities.
Dr. Angel's research program focuses on the intricate relationship between aging and memory processes, with particular emphasis on episodic memory and metamemory. Her work investigates how cognitive reserve factors—including educational level, physical activity, and executive functioning—modulate age-related memory changes. She explores the vascular hypothesis of cognitive aging, the effects of cognitive training, and brain reorganization mechanisms associated with memory aging. Her research also extends to cognitive aging in Autism Spectrum Disorder, representing an emerging and important area of study.
Her extensive publication record spanning from 2009 to 2025 demonstrates consistent productivity and evolving research interests. Recent work shows a sophisticated integration of behavioral measurements with neuroimaging techniques (evoked potentials and fMRI), reflecting methodological advancement in her field. Her research frequently examines the protective effects of various factors against cognitive decline, with a growing emphasis on individual differences in aging trajectories.
Dr. Angel actively supervises doctoral research, currently guiding three PhD students through their dissertation work. Her advisees investigate metamemory in healthy aging, neuropsychological anatomo-functional correlations in the elderly, and the protective effects of physical activity on memory capacities during aging. This commitment to mentoring the next generation of researchers complements her substantial research contributions to the field of cognitive aging.
As Co-head of the Aging and Psychopathology of Memory team, she leads research initiatives that combine behavioral and neuroimaging approaches to understand memory changes associated with normal and pathological aging. Her team's methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approach position them at the forefront of cognitive aging research in France.
