Luciano Mutti is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at Temple University's College of Science and Technology. With dual specialization in Respiratory Medicine and Medical Oncology, his research bridges preclinical and clinical oncology, particularly in thoracic malignancies like mesothelioma and lung cancer. He concurrently holds professorships at the University of L'Aquila (Italy) and Salford University (UK).
His translational research focuses on:
- Antiangiogenic therapies for mesothelioma
- Targeted kinase inhibitors and PI3K/AKT signaling
- Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) and PARP inhibitors
- European guidelines for mesothelioma/lung cancer
- Viral carcinogenesis mechanisms
Recent publications (2023-2025) explore immunotherapy outcomes, molecular targets in mesothelioma, COVID-19 immunogenetics, and oncology drug repurposing. Trends show consistent focus on thoracic oncology with expanding work on immunotherapy toxicities and real-world evidence.
He chairs the Scientific Committee of the Buzzi Foundation for Mesothelioma Therapy and contributes to European treatment guidelines. His work demonstrated mesothelioma's immunogenicity and pioneered clinical trials of anti-CTLA4 agents for this cancer.
