Luciano Marraffini

Luciano Marraffini, PhD, is a Professor at Rockefeller University. His research focuses on CRISPR-Cas immunity mechanisms in bacteria, particularly how these systems defend against viral infections and plasmids. He investigates the molecular basis of bacterial evolution through genetic memory encoded in CRISPR arrays. His work has revealed CRISPR-Cas9's DNA-targeting mechanism, enabling breakthroughs in genetic engineering.
