Luciana Restuccia

Luciana Restuccia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering (DISEG) at Politecnico di Torino. She is also a Member of Interdepartmental Center SISCON - Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions. Her research focuses on sustainable construction materials and techniques, particularly in the areas of concrete technology and seismic retrofitting.

Her primary research interests include:

• Biochar applications in cement composites
• Concrete aggregates and foamed concrete
• Construction and demolition waste recycling
• Seismic retrofitting techniques
• Vernacular architecture preservation

Professor Restuccia's work demonstrates strong alignment with Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Goal 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), and Goal 12 (Responsible consumption and production). Her recent publications show a clear trend toward sustainable construction materials, with significant focus on biochar applications, recycled aggregates, and 3D printing technologies for concrete.

Her scientific contributions have been recognized with several awards:

Professor Restuccia actively supervises PhD students, currently mentoring Silvia Parmigiani (37th cycle, 2022-2025) working on "Exploring 3D-printing with lightweight foamed concrete" and Daniel David Suarez Riera (35th cycle, 2019-2023). She has secured multiple research grants including CINEDER (2023-2025), TOMORROW (2023-2025), and AGRITECH (2022-2025), demonstrating her leadership in sustainable construction research.

She is also involved in several commercial research projects with industry partners, focusing on concrete durability, bridge safety assessment, and structural rehabilitation of historic buildings. Professor Restuccia serves as Secretary of the Gruppo Italiano Frattura (2018-2023) and has organized major conferences including NICOM8 and ANIDIS XIX & ASSISi XVII.
