Dr. Luciana Brondi is a Lecturer at Queen Margaret University's Institute of Global Health and Development (IGHD) in Edinburgh. She is also an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (since 2016). Her expertise spans global health epidemiology, communicable diseases, and health inequalities in low- and middle-income countries.
Education includes a medical degree from the University of Campinas, Brazil, a Master's in Communicable Diseases Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Population Health from the University of Edinburgh's Usher Institute.
Her research focuses on communicable diseases (e.g., tuberculosis, influenza), health disparities, and gender inequalities in healthcare access. She employs quantitative methods, systematic reviews, and analysis of large-scale datasets like Demographic and Health Surveys. Current projects include mental wellbeing studies during the pandemic using UKHLS data.
Teaching contributions include coordinating the Sexual and Reproductive Health module and co-coordinating the Global Public and Social Policy module. She emphasizes public health approaches, analytical techniques, and critical evaluation of literature in her teaching.
