Lucia Notterpek

Lucia Notterpek, Ph.D., is a Professor and Associate Dean of Research in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Medicine. She previously held roles including Chair and Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Florida (2009–2020). Her research focuses on peripheral neuropathies, glial biology, lipid metabolism, and therapies for demyelinating disorders. She actively mentors students and junior scientists in neuroscience research.

Key areas include myelin repair, lipid metabolism’s role in nerve health, and therapeutic strategies to alleviate patient suffering. Her work emphasizes translational research toward clinical applications.

Publications: Recent studies highlight miRNA-based therapies for demyelinating diseases, dietary interventions to improve myelination, and cholesterol trafficking mechanisms linked to PMP22 protein. These contributions are featured in journals like Gene Therapy, Experimental Neurology, and Glia.
