Dr. Lucia Draghia is a Professor at the University of Iasi, Faculty of Horticulture, Department of Horticultural Technologies. She served as Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture from 2012-2020 and currently holds the position of Vice President of the University Senate (2020-2024). With over two decades of academic leadership, she has been instrumental in shaping horticultural education and research at the institution.
Her research focuses on floriculture, ornamental plant technology, and the biodiversity of spontaneous flora. Dr. Draghia has published 219 scientific papers, including 30 in ISI journals, with recent work examining ornamental plant adaptation, propagation techniques, and responses to environmental conditions. Her expertise spans floral art and design, cultivation of ornamental plants, and the evaluation of ornamental value across various species including Gladiolus, Hemerocallis, and Eremurus.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on ornamental plant adaptation to local ecological conditions, propagation methodologies, and physiological responses to environmental factors. Her work bridges fundamental plant science with practical horticultural applications, particularly in evaluating ornamental characteristics and developing cultivation protocols for diverse plant species in Romanian agroclimatic conditions.
Dr. Draghia has supervised numerous graduate students, serving as thesis director for multiple PhD and Master's candidates. She has secured significant research funding, directing four major research projects and participating in 22 others, totaling over 4.25 million lei in research grants. Her projects include investigations into unconventional cultivation techniques, ecological substrates, and the biodiversity of spontaneous flora for ornamental applications.
She maintains active involvement in professional organizations including the Romanian Society of Horticulturists (serving as Vice President of the Floriculture Division), the International Society of Horticultural Science, and the International Society of Soil Sciences. Her leadership extends to academic administration through roles in the University Senate and Faculty Council.
