Lucia Dettori serves as Interim Dean of DePaul University's Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) since July 2022 and holds an Associate Professor position in CDM's School of Computing. She joined DePaul in 2000 after visiting roles at Brown University and Southern Methodist University, and has served as CDM associate dean since 2007.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Applied Mathematics from the University of Parma, Italy
- PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Paris XI, France
Dr. Dettori's research spans computational fluid dynamics, medical image processing, and computer science education, with a national leadership focus on making computing accessible to underrepresented groups. Her work emphasizes equity-driven curriculum development and scalable educational frameworks.
She has secured multimillion-dollar grants from the National Science Foundation, CME Foundation, IBM, and Google. As co-founder of the Chicago Alliance for Equity in Computer Science (CAFÉCS), she spearheaded initiatives that made computer science a Chicago Public Schools graduation requirement. During her 2018 sabbatical as CPS Office of Computer Science Director, her team trained over 200 teachers and reached 90,000+ students through equity-focused introductory courses.
