Lucia Arcifa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Christian, Late Antique, and Medieval Archaeology at the University of Catania. Her research focuses on Byzantine and Medieval archaeology in Sicily, particularly settlement transformations, fortifications, and Christian symbolism in late antique and medieval contexts. She supervises theses on topics such as Middle Byzantine brick production, Arab-Byzantine landscape changes, and Byzantine necropolises.
She holds office hours on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 11:00 via Microsoft Teams, with appointments booked via email. Her contact details include l.arcifa@unict.it and luciaarcifa@alice.it. Notably, she co-authored a 2023 study on the first papyrological evidence of Isidore of Pelusium's letters, contributing to understanding late antique Christian epistolary traditions.
Her work intersects with material philology, Byzantine border studies, and archaeometric approaches to Sicilian artifacts. Thesis topics under her supervision include analyses of early Christian sites (e.g., Cava D'Ispica), martyr cults (e.g., Saint Agatha), and military orders in Norman Sicily. She is affiliated with institutions like the Benedictine Monastery at the University of Catania.
