Lucas Bowler is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. He holds a full-time position and leads research at the intersection of proteomics, microbiology, and genomics. His work focuses on microbial stress responses, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, and the development of novel inhibitors for drug-resistant bacteria. He is also involved in projects analyzing protein expression in pathogens such as Streptococcus uberis and investigates the gut microbiota's response to environmental stressors through Next Generation Sequencing.
His research projects include a collaborative effort (2012–2016) on cellular stress responses, combining proteomic and genomic approaches. He supervises PhD students exploring protein-protein interactions in bacterial systems and antibiotic resistance dynamics. Key areas of expertise include redox proteomics, biofilm analysis, and the application of advanced molecular technologies in medical and veterinary microbiology.
Recent publications span topics such as vaccine stability, neurobiological studies in aging, and pharmacy students' awareness of antibiotic stewardship. His work bridges fundamental research with translational applications, aiming to address global health challenges like antimicrobial resistance.
