Luca Vezzaro

Luca Vezzaro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), where he conducts research on integrated urban water systems, with a focus on water quality and quantity modelling under uncertainty. He is affiliated with the Water Systems research group and contributes to DTU's efforts in sustainable urban infrastructure.

The most recent publications highlight a strong trend toward understanding pollution dynamics in urban runoff, particularly microplastics and particulate matter in stormwater and CSOs. His work increasingly integrates environmental models with energy systems, exploring the role of water resource recovery facilities in power grid stability. Methodologically, he focuses on sensitivity analysis, model structure evaluation, and event-based simulation frameworks.

Luca Vezzaro has supervised multiple PhD students on topics related to urban drainage, wastewater treatment control, and digital twins. He has been involved in several funded research projects, including those on stochastic predictive control and sustainable plant-wide operation of water resource recovery facilities.

He has held external academic positions, including Visiting Scholar at Universitá Ca' Foscari Venezia (2020–2021) and guest teacher at INSA Lyon (2015). He is active in public engagement, having participated in conferences, workshops, and media discussions on urban water challenges in Denmark.
