Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wiese serves as Professor of Urban Water Management with a focus on wastewater at Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal within the Water, Environment, Construction and Safety department since January 1, 2016.
His research encompasses critical domains in water engineering:
- Sewerage Systems: Hydrological/hydrodynamic runoff simulation, pollution load modeling, integrated sewer network-treatment plant simulation, and optimization of storm water overflow basins/pumping stations
- Wastewater Treatment: Feasibility studies, energy efficiency analysis, operational optimization using ASM 3/ADM 1 models, trace substance elimination, and industrial wastewater solutions
- Resource Recovery: Biomethane production, wastewater heat utilization, phosphorus/nitrogen recovery, and biorefinery-integrated environmental systems
- Biogas Technology: Anaerobic digestion process optimization, digestate processing, and measurement/automation concepts
Prof. Wiese directs a comprehensive laboratory infrastructure featuring aerobic/semi-technical wastewater treatment plants, biogas test benches, and advanced analytical capabilities including GC-MS, HPLC, TOC analysis, and mobile gas measurement systems for field validation.
