Luca Stella

Luca Stella serves as Assistant Professor at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, with active research affiliations at IZA, Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and Public Policy, and CESifo Research Network. Previously, he held post-doctoral positions at Bocconi University and University of Wuppertal, and completed doctoral studies at University of Padua with a visiting period at Boston University.

His educational trajectory includes BSc and MSc in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University, followed by PhD in Economics. This foundation supports his interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technological change, demographic behavior, and economic decision-making.

His work reveals critical mechanisms like broadband-enabled teleworking increasing fertility among highly educated women while potentially exacerbating demographic inequalities.

Recent publications demonstrate evolving research directions: 2022 studies analyze immigration attitude persistence, robotics' safety impacts, and globalization's demographic consequences in low-fertility settings. These extend his foundational 2019 finding that high-speed internet access promotes fertility through improved work-family balance, now investigating how newer automation technologies may disrupt these dynamics. His research consistently bridges technological change with demographic outcomes using rigorous causal identification strategies.
