Luca Savorelli

Dr. Luca Savorelli is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of St Andrews Business School, where he also serves as Vice-Dean of Education. Based at the School of Economics and Finance, he leads research at the intersection of health economics, behavioral incentives, and innovation policy. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through studies on public health interventions and economic development.

Savorelli's research spans three primary domains:

• Health & Behavioral Economics: Modeling food consumption, obesity determinants, and tax policy impacts on public health
• Innovation Economics: Analyzing global patent networks and R&D specialization patterns
• Organizational Design: Investigating workplace incentives, democratic processes, and non-monetary motivation through field experiments

His publications demonstrate consistent focus on policy-relevant microeconomic modeling, with recent work shifting toward experimental methods testing behavioral theories in real-world settings. The 15 most recent articles show progression from theoretical models (2008-2012) toward applied field experiments (2016-2022), with growing emphasis on organizational behavior and workplace democracy.

As Principal Investigator, he secured funding from The British Academy for the project 'Self-determination and bottom-up rules in the workplace: a quasi-field experiment' (2015-2017). He currently supervises PhD candidates in five areas including cultural influences on innovation, democratic value development, and non-monetary workplace incentives.
