Luca Giordano

Luca Giordano is an Associate Professor in the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG) at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. He is a member of the SISCON Interdepartmental Center for Safety of Infrastructures and Constructions and serves as Scientific Director for agreements with public administrations, including ReLUIS Consortium. His academic and research activities are centered on structural engineering, particularly bridge systems, concrete and steel structures, and seismic safety.

His research interests include:

• Bridges (design, construction, monitoring)
• Reinforced and prestressed concrete structures
• Steel and composite structures
• Structural safety and robustness
• Seismic performance and reliability
• Structural degradation and optimization

His recent publications focus on model updating using ambient vibration, safety assessment of bridge decks, seismic reliability of isolated bridges, and experimental evaluation of aged structures. These works reflect a strong emphasis on combining numerical modeling, experimental validation, and practical applications for infrastructure safety.

• Commercial research on modular reinforcement systems and bridge monitoring

He actively advises PhD students, including Mario Ferrara and Guglielmo Amendola, and has been a member of doctoral colleges in Civil and Environmental Engineering since 2013. He teaches courses such as Design and Construction of Bridges, Bridge Design and Reinforcement Workshop, and Seismic Reliability of Friction-Isolated Structures. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 11 (Sustainable Cities) and 16 (Strong Institutions).
