Luca Casagrande

Luca Casagrande is an Associate Professor and Associate Director (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) at the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics (RSAA), Australian National University (ANU). He earned a Master's in Physics from the University of Turin (Italy) and a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Turku (Finland). Before joining ANU in 2012, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics.

• Currently leads a research team studying the Milky Way's formation and evolution through analyses of stellar properties, chemical compositions, motions, and ages of stars, clusters, and streams.
• Associate Editor for the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia.

Research focuses on galactic archaeology, asteroseismology, and stellar populations. Key projects include the Extended Main-sequence Turn-off in Galactic Open Clusters, the Milky Way Tomography with SkyMapper, and collaborations on the GALAH survey.

Supervised students include Maja Jablonska, Benjamin Lowe, Diego Ulloa Solis, and Heran Xiong. Active in initiatives like the Stromlo Distinguished Visitor Program and the Australian Imaging Telescope Consortium (AITC).
