Professor Anna Moore is a prominent academic and researcher in Astronomy & Astrophysics at the Australian National University (ANU). She holds dual roles as Director of the ANU Institute for Space and Director of the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre at Mount Stromlo Observatories. Her research focuses on space and ground-based instrumentation, including the Palomar Gattini-IR survey and DREAMS telescope projects. She contributed to the formation of the Australian Space Agency as a member of the Space Expert Reference Group (2018).
Her work emphasizes infrared transient detection, stellar astrophysics, and instrumentation development. Key projects include the Palomar Gattini-IR survey for near-infrared transients and the DREAMS telescope for Antarctic-based wide-field astronomy. Recent research includes studies of Be stars in X-ray binaries, supernova progenitors, and Galactic novae.
Moore’s publications span over a decade, addressing topics like Lyman-α emission in cosmic structures, multi-messenger astronomy, and instrumentation challenges. She has pioneered methods to uncover optically obscured Galactic novae and symbiotic stars using near-infrared data.
Her professional service includes leadership in Australian space initiatives and academic instrumentation. The Advanced Instrumentation Technology Centre (AITC), under her directorship, develops cutting-edge tools for astrophysical research despite operational challenges posed by environmental and pandemic disruptions.
