Dr. Luca Battistella is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on algebraic geometry, including moduli spaces of curves, tropical/logarithmic geometry, and enumerative geometry (Gromov-Witten theory). He has held postdoctoral positions at institutions such as Humboldt University Berlin, Goethe University Frankfurt, Heidelberg University, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn. His academic journey includes a PhD from Imperial College London (2018) and undergraduate studies at the University of Pisa under advisors Angelo Vistoli and Andrea Maffei.
- Previous Positions:
- Postdoc at HU Berlin (ERC SYZYGY grant)
- Substituted Chair of Algebra and Number Theory at Frankfurt (GAUS-funded)
- Member of Heidelberg's Physical Mathematics Group (STRUCTURES-funded)
- Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, Bonn
His research integrates combinatorial and geometric techniques to address foundational questions in algebraic geometry, with a particular emphasis on modern enumerative problems and moduli theory.
