Luca Barattoni

Luca Barattoni, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Clemson University's College of Arts and Humanities. He joined Clemson in 2006 after earning his Ph.D. in Italian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on film studies, 19th and 20th century Italian literature, critical theory, and popular culture. Barattoni has authored and edited multiple books, including Italian Post-Neorealist Cinema (2013) and co-edited a special issue on Jewish Identities in Latin American Cinema (2019). His work spans analyses of Italian cinema, literary theory, and cultural studies, with notable contributions to understanding Bergsonian themes, Jewish diaspora representation, and post-neorealist aesthetics.

His teaching includes courses on Italian cinema, Dante's Divine Comedy, and genre movies. Barattoni has also translated works by Aleksandr Melichov and Aleksandr Livšic. His articles explore topics ranging from fascist cinema to molecular politics in Orphan Black, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with media, history, and philosophy.
