Luc Vanier serves as Professor of Dance at the University of Utah's School of Dance since 2016, teaching ballet, somatics, pedagogy, and interactive technology. He directs Salt Lake City Alexander Technique training and founded the Integral Movement Research Center.
His credentials include an MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois (2001) and certification as an Alexander Technique Teacher since 2001.
Vanier's research centers on somatic movement practices, particularly the Alexander Technique and his co-created Framework for Integration. This system uses infant and animal movement patterns to enhance bodily coordination and decision-making for dancers, bridging dance education with somatic theory through practical applications.
His recent output—including the 2024 choreography "Bring it on Home" and 2025 book "Moving into Skill"—demonstrates translational research into dance pedagogy tools and performance frameworks.
He mentors students through directed research and independent study courses, guiding creative projects in technique and somatic applications.
Vanier leads the Integral Movement Research Lab, providing weekly Alexander Technique and Framework for Integration sessions to campus communities, and conducts international workshops such as the 2023 Montevideo Integral Pedagogy Workshop.
