Luann Good Gingrich is a Professor in the School of Social Work at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and serves as Academic Director of the Research Commons. Her research employs Reflexive Sociology, Institutional Ethnography, and Community-Based Research to analyze social exclusion/inclusion, particularly in contexts of migration, displacement, and social welfare systems.
Education includes:
- PhD in Social Work from University of Toronto
- Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University
Her work focuses on: transnational livelihoods; racialized/immigrant inclusion; gender and labor markets; Mennonite diaspora; and critical policy analysis. She investigates how symbolic violence and market logic perpetuate inequality across borders, with emphasis on Canada and Latin America.
Publications demonstrate sustained focus on migration governance, refugee sponsorship, economic exclusion metrics, and decolonial resistance. Recent work examines COVID-19 labor impacts, colonial genocide, and systemic change strategies, often using mixed-methods approaches across national contexts.
As Academic Director of York's Research Commons, she facilitates collaborative scholarship. She is an editorial board member for the International Journal of Migration and Border Studies and actively mentors graduate students.
