Lu Ann DeCunzo is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Delaware's College of Arts & Sciences. Her work bridges historical archaeology, material culture studies, and heritage preservation, focusing on the 17th–19th century cultural histories of the Middle Atlantic region and 20th–21st century heritage interpretation. She has led public archaeology projects in Delaware through collaborations with the Delaware Historical Society, the Old Swedes Foundation, and other institutions.

DeCunzo's research examines colonialism in the lower Delaware Valley and the African American experience in northern Delaware. She is co-editing New Stories from Old Things and Encountering 'Others', exploring material culture's role in historical narratives. As former President of the Society for Historical Archaeology, she promoted globalizing the field in the U.S.
Her publications highlight trends in historical archaeology, material culture theory, and postcolonial studies. Key projects include excavations at the Read House and Gardens, analysis of colonial gardens, and studies of the Magdalen Society of Philadelphia's material legacy. She contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the Center for Material Culture Studies and the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture Studies.
