Gabrielle Lanier

Dr. Gabrielle Lanier is a Professor in the History Department at James Madison University (JMU), serving as Director of the Public History Concentration. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, an M.A. from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on cultural landscapes, vernacular architecture, and public history, with a specialization in U.S. historical archaeology.

Her work bridges academic scholarship and community engagement, emphasizing material culture interpretation and heritage preservation. Notable awards include the Allen Noble Book Award (2010) and Fred B. Kniffen Prize (1999).
