Lowery Parker is an Affiliated Faculty member at the SIT Graduate Institute, where she contributes to programs like the MA in Sustainable Development Practice and PhD in Sustainability. She holds a PhD in Geography and Integrative Conservation and a Master’s in International Policy from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Parker’s research focuses on the politics of agricultural investment in Africa, particularly examining food sovereignty, genetically modified crops, and the social impacts of large-scale agricultural projects. Her work also explores soil carbon markets, land justice, and pedagogies of solidarity, emphasizing the intersection of racial and economic justice in transforming food and energy systems.
Her publications analyze sugarcane expansion in southern Africa, smallholder incorporation in Zambia’s sugar industry, and neoliberal biotechnology in Latin America. These works span disciplines like environmental science, political economy, and agrarian studies, addressing themes such as capitalist land acquisition, labor dynamics, and sustainable resource use.
