Louise Woodstock is an Associate Professor in the Media and Communication Studies Department at Ursinus College. Her work explores how communication is conceptualized in mediated culture, with a focus on critical and cultural studies, media resistance, and therapeutic discourse.
Her research spans journalism studies, new communication technologies, and digital media. She has published in leading journals such as the International Journal of Communication, Journalism, and The Communication Review. Recent projects examine media resisters, news-democracy narratives, and the intersection of tattoos with neoliberal self-therapy.
Woodstock teaches courses including Media and Society, Communication Theory and Research, History and Theory of Freedom of Expression, Technology and Culture, and Digital Democracy. She emphasizes embodied learning, exemplified by her Climate and Communications class planting a native garden at Ursinus to foster ecological stewardship and student engagement.
She holds a B.A. from Oberlin College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Contact: lwoodstock@ursinus.edu
