معرفی
Dr. Louise Terry is a Lecturer and Daphne Jackson Fellow at Cardiff University's School of Optometry and Vision Sciences. As a qualified optometrist with a PhD in ocular imaging, she combines clinical expertise with academic research. Her work focuses on developing innovative approaches to vision care, particularly in myopia management and ocular imaging technologies.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD (2017): "An in vivo investigation of choroidal vasculature in age-related macular degeneration" from Cardiff University
- BSc in Optometry with First Class Honours (2012) from Cardiff University
- Registered Optometrist (2013)
Dr. Terry's research spans ocular imaging, anterior eye conditions, contact lenses, and myopia management. She applies artificial intelligence to detect and classify eye conditions from OCT scans, with particular focus on age-related macular degeneration. Her clinical background informs her research approach, ensuring practical applications for patient care. She has established the Myopia Control clinic at Cardiff University, fitting children with specialized contact lenses to slow myopia progression.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple domains of vision science, with trends showing increasing focus on myopia control technologies, contact lens innovations, and genetic factors in refractive error. Her work bridges clinical practice with technological innovation, particularly in diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions for vision disorders.
Dr. Terry has received significant research funding including:
- Daphne Jackson Trust Fellowship (£115,461)
- British Council Gender Equality Partnership (£24,988)
- H-IAA Strategic Impact Fund (£9,887)
- Higher Education Funding Council Wales grant (£46,967)
She actively supervises PhD students in ocular imaging, AMD, choroid, myopia, and contact lenses research. Dr. Terry has secured numerous grants totaling over £250,000, demonstrating strong research leadership. Her work extends internationally, particularly through collaborations in Ghana focused on vision care and empowering women in optometry.
Dr. Terry contributes to several research networks including the British & Irish Universities and Colleges Contact Lens Educators committee and serves on the School Research Ethics and Audit Committee. Her clinical work at Cardiff University's teaching clinic provides direct patient care while informing her research agenda.
