Louise Pratt is a Professor of Classics at Emory University, where she has served multiple terms as Department Chair (1995–96, 2005–2009, 2013–2016). She holds a B.A. in Classics and History of Ideas from Williams College (1982) and a Ph.D. in Classical Studies from the University of Michigan (1988). Her research focuses on Archaic and Classical Greek poetry, children in Greek literature, and ancient literary criticism. She has authored seminal works like Lying and Poetry from Homer to Pindar (1997) and co-edited Engaging Classical Texts in the Contemporary World (2018). Notable awards include the Emory Williams Distinguished Teaching Award (2012) and CAMWS Teaching Excellence Award (2003). She teaches courses ranging from introductory classics to advanced Greek texts and has advised numerous honors students. Active in university service, she chairs committees, leads museum initiatives, and contributes to curriculum development.
