Louise Ness is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities, specializing in historical research on 19th-century Norwegian political dynamics and transatlantic connections. Her work examines the interplay between public opinion, opposition press, and emigration to America during this transformative period.
She completed her BA (2021) and MA (2023) at the University of Southeast Norway, with her BA thesis analyzing Fox News' influence on American electoral patterns (Fox news: a political power factor) and her MA research investigating the opposition newspaper Patrouillen's role in shaping Norway's political discourse (1824-1831) through the lens of constitutional publicity.
Ness's current doctoral project explores how transatlantic printed expressions—particularly emigrant letters—circulated through public spheres to influence Norwegian political opinion between the 1860s and 1890s. Her scholarly focus bridges Political History, Transatlantic Studies, and Public Opinion analysis within the context of Scandinavian-American migration. As a member of the Experiencing American Democracy research group, she contributes to interdisciplinary investigations of democratic evolution across the Atlantic.
