Louise Hawes is a founding faculty member of the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) MFA Program in Writing for Children and Young Adults (WCYA), where she mentors emerging authors. She has also served as the John Grisham Visiting Author at the University of Mississippi, Writer in Residence at the University of New Mexico, and Reading Initiative Author at the Mississippi University for Women.

Her research and creative practice spans children's literature, young adult fiction, graphic novels, and multigenre storytelling. Recent projects include the graphic novel A Flight of Angels (2012) and the hybrid-form novel The Language of Stars (2017).
Louise has received multiple honors: New Jersey Writing Fellowship (twice), New Jersey Author’s Award, and recognition from institutions including the Children’s Book Council, YALSA, and Bank Street College.
As an educator, she has lectured nationally and mentored numerous new children’s authors. Her work explores intersections of genre and form, emphasizing emotional resonance and narrative innovation.
