Louise Crowley

Louise Crowley is a Professor of Family Law at the School of Law, University College Cork (UCC). She holds a BCL (1st class honours), LLM, and PhD from UCC and Cardiff University, respectively. Her expertise spans family law, domestic violence, and legal responses to gender-based violence. She has authored seminal texts like Family Law (2023) and pioneered initiatives such as the UCC Family Law Clinic and campus-wide Bystander Intervention program. Her work addresses legal literacy, sexual harassment prevention, and systemic reforms in family law. Crowley has received multiple awards, including the UCC President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (2010, 2020) and HEA funding for anti-violence frameworks. She also chairs committees on sexual harassment and advises state agencies on domestic violence policies.

Teaching and Outreach: Director of LLM in Children’s Rights and Family Law. Developed the Bystander Intervention initiative, training 3,000+ Defence Forces personnel in 2023/24. Collaborates with NGOs like Tusla and MOVE Ireland to strengthen service provision for domestic violence victims.
