Severyna Magill is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Human Rights at St Mary's University, where she leads the Human Rights LLM and Law (Conversion) LLM programs. Previously, she held senior academic roles at Sheffield Hallam University and Jindal Global Law School in India, where she founded the Human Rights Law and Theory program and served as Faculty Lead for four years.
Her expertise spans human rights law with a focus on gender discrimination, domestic abuse, sexual violence, and reproductive rights. She co-founded the Committee Against Sexual Harassment at Jindal Global Law School and collaborated with NGOs like Action Aid to combat gender-based violence. Her research has been funded by UN Women, the European Integration Fund, and the UK Home Office.
Severyna’s work has been featured on BBC News and Radio, addressing issues like violence against women. She holds a Teaching Award and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, alongside memberships in the Berkeley Centre on Comparative Equality Law and the European Reproductive Justice Network.
Her advisory work includes leading projects on migrant women’s rights under the UK Domestic Abuse Act and global frameworks for addressing sexual harassment in educational institutions. She has contributed to policy reforms through oral history projects in conflict zones like Kashmir and analyses of legal precedents affecting reproductive rights.
