معرفی
Professor Louise Amoore is a faculty member in the Department of Geography at the University of Durham, where she serves as Deputy Head of Department. Her research spans geopolitical technologies, data-driven security, and the ethical implications of algorithms in governance.
Amoore's scholarly focus includes generative AI, machine learning, and the transformation of state security through data analytics. Her work critically examines how algorithmic systems reshape sovereignty, privacy, and societal norms, as evidenced in her influential books Cloud Ethics: Algorithms and the Attributes of Ourselves and Others (2020) and The Politics of Possibility: Risk and Security Beyond Probability (2013).
Recent publications analyze the political orders of machine learning, the entanglements of data reuse, and the visualization of security risks. These works underscore her commitment to demystifying the 'black box' of AI while addressing its geopolitical and societal consequences.
Scientific Awards and Recognitions:
- RCUK Global Uncertainties Leadership Fellowship (2012–2015)
- Appointed to UK independent ethics body for biometric and data-driven technologies
- Research grants from Leverhulme Trust, ESRC, EPSRC, AHRC, and NWO
Amoore supervises PhD students Anna Okada and Charlotte Lock. Her collaborative projects, such as 'Securing Against Future Events' (SaFE) and 'Data Wars,' have advanced understanding of preemptive security practices and data sovereignty. She co-edits Progress in Human Geography and contributes to public discourse through edited volumes like Algorithmic Life: Calculative Devices in the Age of Big Data (2015).
