Dr. Chenchen Zhang is an Associate Professor in International Relations at Durham University's School of Government and International Affairs. She specializes in critical theory, political geography, and international relations, with a focus on digital narratives, postcolonial nationalism, and the global right. Her work bridges European and Chinese contexts, examining citizenship, migration, and cyber-political dynamics.
Research interests include digital far-right politics, postcolonial nationalism, and the interplay between digital spaces and geopolitical discourse. She directs the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies and contributes to journals like Geopolitics and Review of International Studies.
Her recent publications analyze reactionary discourses, digital sovereignty, and pandemic-era nationalism. She co-edits Geopolitics and hosts the Shicha podcast, engaging with global geopolitical issues.
