Louis Volont is a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), affiliated with the School of Architecture + Planning and the Department of Art, Culture, and Technology. His work focuses on cultural commoning, urban activism, and the intersection of art and public space. Currently based at MIT's ACT Program, he holds a PhD from the University of Antwerp (2021) where he explored urban commoning strategies through Lefebvrian theory.
Previous roles include Research Fellow at the Société Mutuelle des Artistes (2013-2016) and doctoral research at the Culture Commons Quest Office (CCQO). His research has been funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and the Fulbright Program. He has authored/co-authored books such as Shapeshifting: The Cultural Production of Common Space and co-edited The Rise of the Common City.
Volont is a frequent speaker at academic and public symposia, organizing events like City Aesthetics & Citizenship (2018). His publications appear in journals like City & Community and Space & Culture, addressing topics such as artistic constitutions of urban commons and sustainable creativity frameworks.
