Louis Schlesinger

Louis Schlesinger is a Professor of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). He holds dual roles as a Diplomate in Forensic Psychology (American Board of Professional Psychology) and a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice. A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, his career includes leadership roles such as President of the New Jersey Psychological Association (1989) and membership on the Special Classification Review Board for sex offenders. He has received prestigious awards, including the APA’s Karl F. Heiser Presidential Award (1993) and New Jersey’s Psychologist of the Year (1990).

Educated at the New School of Social Research (PhD, 1975), Schlesinger specializes in forensic psychology with a focus on extraordinary crimes like sexual and serial murder, rape, and mass homicide. His research collaboration with the FBI Behavioral Science Unit examines crime scene behavior and criminal psychopathology. He has authored ten books and numerous articles, including *Sexual Murder: Catathymic and Compulsive Homicides* (2004) and *Psychiatric Aspects of Criminal Behavior* (2017).

His research emphasizes crime scene analysis, forensic behavioral evidence, and criminal investigative strategies. Over 200 TV/YouTube documentaries feature his expertise in crime analysis. Current projects include studying 'crime scene staging' and symbolic behaviors in homicide investigations. Active in policy, he advised on New Jersey’s Megan’s Law revision (2001). Teaching includes courses like *Psychological Profiles of the Homicidal Offender* and *Crime Scene Analysis*.
