Louis-Marie Bobay is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Bioinformatics Research Center at North Carolina State University since 2023. He holds a PhD from the Pasteur Institute (Paris, France) and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin. His research integrates genomics, microbiology, and evolutionary biology to study microbial evolution, recombination dynamics, and species boundaries.
Education: PhD in Microbiology at Institut Pasteur (Paris, France); Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Texas at Austin.
Research Interests:
- Recombination-driven evolution in bacteria
- Genome architecture and speciation processes
- Horizontal gene transfer mechanisms
- Prokaryotic population genetics
Publications focus on understanding evolutionary mechanisms in microbes, including homologous recombination's role in shaping bacterial genomes and species boundaries, and the impact of gene flow on microbial diversification.
Labs/Teams: The Bobay Lab at NCSU focuses on microbial genomics and evolution, developing tools like CoreCruncher for analyzing core genomes in large prokaryotic datasets.
