Louis J. Guillette Jr.

Louis J. Guillette Jr. is a Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, holding the CoEE Endowed Chair in Marine Genomics at the Hollings Marine Laboratory (HML). He is also affiliated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a Professor.

His research focuses on understanding how environmental factors influence reproductive systems in vertebrates, including the effects of contaminants on wildlife and humans, endangered species' reproductive biology, and maternal-fetal chemical communication. He actively mentors graduate and undergraduate students through programs like the G.A.T.O.R. initiative, emphasizing hands-on research experiences.

Guillette's work has contributed significantly to the study of 'environmental estrogens' and endocrine disruptors. His fieldwork includes collaborations on wildlife health assessments in diverse ecosystems, such as alligator populations in the southeastern U.S. and rhino conservation in South Africa.
