Lotta Aarikka is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Eastern Finland's School of Humanities, Philosophical Faculty, specializing in the Finnish language. Her research focuses on dialectology, language ideologies, and sociolinguistics. She earned her PhD from the University of Turku in 2023 with a dissertation titled 'Dialect and its study: Perspectives on the history and language ideologies of Finnish dialectological research 1871–2017', which was awarded 'with commendation' for representing top-tier scholarship.
She currently works on the project Linguistic variation, social class and experiences on inequality in Eastern Finland (KIVELI), funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s North Karelia and North Savo funds. This interdisciplinary initiative combines sociological and linguistic methodologies to explore language variation and social stratification in Eastern Finland.
