Lorraine Schnabel

Lorraine Schnabel serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Architectural Studies Historic Preservation program within the College of Architecture and the Built Environment, leveraging her extensive professional background in architectural conservation to inform academic instruction.

• BS in Geology from Pomona College, Claremont, California
• MS in Geology with concentration in Architectural Conservation from Columbia University's Historic Preservation program

Ms. Schnabel's research expertise centers on masonry conservation systems across diverse materials including stone, brick, terra cotta, and concrete, with specialized focus on historic concrete formulations and mortar analysis. Her geological training uniquely positions her to address material degradation mechanisms in architectural heritage, particularly through applied conservation science developed during her Smithsonian Conservation Analytical Laboratory internship researching marble consolidation techniques.
