Lorna Shaughnessy is a Lecturer in Spanish and Director of the Anderson Centre for Translation Research and Practice at the University of Galway. She coordinates MA programmes in Translation and Spanish, teaches literary translation modules, and supervises MA dissertations in Translation Studies. Her research focuses on Hispanic literatures, classical Greek mythology’s influence in Hispanic works, and cross-cultural poetry translation.
Her academic contributions include articles on classical mythology in Hispanic literatures and translations of Mexican/Spanish poetry published in journals like Poetry London and Asymptote. She has also authored four poetry collections, with her work translated into Italian, Galician, and Spanish.
In 2018, she founded the International Research Group Crosswinds: Irish and Galician Poetry and Translation under the Moore Institute. Her work bridges literary and practical translation, emphasizing cultural dialogue between Irish, Galician, and Hispanic traditions.
