Lorna McCallum is a Lecturer in Management at the Business School, Queen Margaret University (QMU), where she has been a permanent staff member since 2024, working part-time (3 days a week). She initially joined QMU in 2018 as a Visiting Lecturer and has since expanded her teaching across key undergraduate modules.
Her research focuses on managed communication during organizational change, with additional interests in workplace coaching, leadership development, and fostering a growth mindset. Methodologically, she employs both qualitative and quantitative approaches, including thematic analysis and triangulation.
Lorna teaches core business modules such as Introduction to Management and Leadership, Professional Skills Development, Business Consultancy, and Critical Issues in International Management. Her teaching philosophy integrates academic theory with over 30 years of practical experience in the private sector.
Before entering academia, Lorna worked as an Internal Communications Consultant for major UK-based organizations including Toshiba, Arup Consulting, and TechnipFMC, where she championed values-led communication strategies during periods of change.
She began part-time lecturing in 2012 while pursuing a Customised Masters in Business Communication and Management at Edinburgh Napier University, teaching subjects such as Business Start-up and Leadership in a Changing Environment.
Throughout her academic career, she has contributed to research projects on topics including digital celebrations during the pandemic, developmental needs of third-sector trustee boards, and barriers faced by direct entrant students in higher education.
